The Purpose:

We are a Christ-Centered, family friendly church with emphasis on maintaining a family altar and supplying fathers with the tools for the spiritual leadership of their families in their homes.

    The Tool:

Family Altar Study Time is simply a tool to guide us in our study of the Scriptures. Each “Lesson Page” covers a one week study, with each page guiding you as to what to do each day of the week. It includes: Drills, Review, Scripture Reading, Additional Scriptures, Points to Consider, Questions and Scripture Memory.

    The Exhortation:

We as parents are responsible for the spiritual nurturing of our children. We must have control of the Bible knowledge level & faith development of our children.

Question? Do we dare pass this privilege & this responsibility of “soul training” on to others?

Parents, let’s bear the responsibility of the faithfulness of our children. As Christian fathers & mothers let’s carefully examine the Scriptures & follow God’s pattern for the training of our children.

Moses told Israel in Deuteronomy 6:4-9, “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.”

Fathers, we are instructed in Ephesians 6:4 to teach our children. The Scripture doesn’t say let the mother do it, if she wants to. (Though she is most definitely supporting the husband’s role). As a matter of fact, mother is not mentioned in this verse, but it says, “And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” If we expect our children to obey us as they are commanded in Ephesians 6:1, should they not, also, expect us to give them the training and leadership commanded in verse 4?

Let us join with Joshua who said, “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15.

    Planning Your Family Altar:

We want our family altars to be good experiences, not a chore, for our families. We believe that at least once each day a family should spend some time, even if short, together praying, studying the Scripture lesson for that week and hide the Word of God in our hearts.

Parents, should also be cautious in allowing the Family Altar time to be interrupted.

    Scheduling Your Family Altar:

When should a family study? Morning, noon, and night are all good times to study God’s Word together as a family. The retired couple might find after breakfast an ideal time with their cup of coffee or tea? Some active families say that immediately following the evening meal is best. Other families choose after breakfast as ideal for them. While others choose the quiet time an hour before bedtime.

The point we would like to emphasize is to SET ASIDE A SPECIFIC TIME FOR YOUR FAMILY ALTAR STUDY TIME. To say we will study the Bible some time really means we won’t study. Our clock doesn’t have a some time o’clock. Does Yours?

May God richly bless you & your family as you walk in the Light of His Word!

    The Warning:

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.” - Hosea 4:6
